Spotlight on Alec Hohnadell

Over the past few weeks we’ve been doing features on some of our newest sponsored riders. Now it’s time to put the spotlight on our youngest team rider, Alec Hohnadell. Sixteen year old Alec resides in Florida and is part of the Black Star Motorsports race team. During the years that Alec has raced he has shown great promise and has rapidly risen through the ranks to become one of the nation’s fastest racers. Not only is Alec a great racer but he is also a very honest, hard working young man. We at Jettribe only look to have racers who will positively represent our name and Alec is a racer that we are very fortunate to have.
Here is a brief summary of Alec’s achievements so far this season:
Panama City Beach- Round 1
The surf was large and really rough in Panama City. I got beat up pretty badly and was definitely learning some riding tips from Macc and Flores. I was only able to run my Stock Class SXR in all classes as my Hydro isn't going to see a saltwater surf race. I ran my Stock SXR in 3 classes: Pro Ski GP, Pro Ski Stock, and Expert Ski Limited. I managed to earn 1st place in all 3 motos of the Expert Ski Limited Class for an overall 1st place. I also earned a 3rd place podium finish in the Pro Ski Stock Class. I ended up with a disappointing 12th place finish in Pro Ski GP after not being able to race the last two motos. I think I had an okay race considering I was running a Stock Ski in all classes and it was only my second surf race.

 Montgomery-Round 2
The Montgomery Race turned out a little better for me although I still ran all 3 classes on my Stock SXR other than one moto. I blew up one Hydrospace in practice and blew up the backup Hydrospace in the first moto of Pro Ski GP. I was able to campaign my Limited Class Hydrospace to a close 2nd place finish in the first moto of Pro Ski GP just a few boat lengths behind Chris MacClugage on his Bullet GP Ski. That was the most exciting race of my career as I was charging hard behind the best stand-up rider in the sport. My Hydrospace blew up just as I crossed the finish line but I was relieved to see it made it because it had been smoking the last few laps. I was determined to finish that moto and rode it until it blew the spark plug out of the head. I was still only able to manage a 6th place overall finish in Pro Ski GP as I had to race a stock SXR in the last two motos of the GP Ski Class. I finished much better in the Pro Ski Stock and Expert Ski Limited classes. I ended up with a 1st place overall finish in Expert Ski Limited and a 2nd place overall finish in Pro Ski Stock.

And here is a quick word from Alec about his hopes for the rest of the season:
“I hope to improve throughout the rest of the year and should have some good equipment by Racine or Rochester. Trey and Cam Frame of Black Star are building a Bullet Hull GP Ski and I can't wait to try that out next weekend. I will also have one of my Hydrospaces ready as Tim Judge is working on it now. I also will have a SURPRISE Ski that should turn some heads real shortly. I look forward to a good year and can't wait to see how I do on my new skis.”
